2.                  BACKGROUND

2.1       While Complementary Medicine in other countries especially in developed   countries are well established and enjoy tremendous public support and recognition, the same cannot be said of the profession in Malaysia at the present moment.  This is because Complementary Medicine is relatively new in Malaysia and the profession has not been organized to meet the needs of the Malaysian Society.

There is therefore an urgent need to address these issues if the profession and the country is to achieve the objectives stated above.

 3.            CURRENT STATUS AND DIRECTION

3.1     The Society was established under the guidance of the Primary Healthcare Section of the Ministry of Health in 1998 and the Society is therefore very fortunate to have the understanding and support of the Ministry of Health ñ an example of smart partnership between the public sector and the NGOs. It bodes well for the future of the Complementary Healthcare Profession

3.2      The future direction of the Society is simple.  To implement all the requirements and guidelines proposed by the Ministry of Health and to incorporate other strategies and guidelines from other healthcare stakeholders that will assist the Society to fulfil its stated objectives.
